Glossar: WOL = (hist.) Word of Life (deutsch Amtsblatt); heute "Divine Service Guide" genannt. The wrong direction
Leber is leading the church in the wrong direction. He has stepped up preaching NAC exclusivity, as seen on another thread. Now he seeks to re-establish tight controls on music. Expect to see his exclusivity rhetoric appear more frequently in the WOL, as well as messages passed down the ranks.
It appears that Leber's reaction to the decline of the NAC is to push "old school" ideas--you need apostles to connect to Christ; non-NAC music is not holy enough, etc. While this may play well to the TB, it causes increased frustration for those who remain in the church based on the hope of future change, and is a turn-off to those who are potential members. Leber's efforts to consolidate the church membership base only hurt the long term prospects of the church. But being the NAC, there is no decision maker with the clout or courage to argue the point with him. Maybe a congregation or district needs to break off before the conservative wing gets the message that exclusivity is killing the church.

Danke, Stammapostel Leber! On 5 July 2002 I received the following response from PJ, following an email from me:-
what our dear chief apostle clearly states is the following:
How can you plausibly explain that the Holy Spirit only acts through the apostles?
The Holy Spirit can only be dispensed through apostles. His activity is not, however, restricted to apostleship. He was already active in the Old Testament through the prophets. After the apostles of the early Church had passed away, the Holy Spirit acted across the centuries through suitable vessels. Martin Luther, for example, was inspired by the Holy Spirit; that's why he had the power to translate the Bible into German.
Can we maintain that our faith is the only true one?
We don't maintain anything! Based on the traditions of Holy Scripture, we can testify that the Gospel, as it is preached in the New Apostolic Church, corresponds in its entirety to the teachings of our Lord Jesus and that it is grounded in the Bible. Whoever chooses this path and receives the Sacraments ordained by Jesus and remains faithful, will attain the goal of faith. As to how God will shape his relationship to members of other religions and denominations, those who have also believed, prayed and made sacrifices and followed the path they held to be righteous, this we entrust to His unimpeachable justice, according to which fulfillment will be vouchsafed to others as well.
Can unsealed souls participate in the Day of the Lord?
According to our understanding, the divine order has ordained divine childhood as a basis for participation in the First Resurrection - founded in rebirth and in conduct worthy of God and acceptable to Him. Christ's Return to fetch home His own is, however, a sovereign prerogative of God's, no less than His decision as to who shall participate.
Have a nice day,
Peter Johanning
On a follow-up email, I got the following reply on 11 July 2002:
our understanding of the Hl. Sriptures is that God gave a "regular" or "safe" way of dispensing the Hl. Spirit, e.g. through the apostle's ministry. But God is almigthy, there might be exeptions, He might give His spirit to someone who has not come into contact with His apostles. To our understanding the sealing with the Hl. Spirit is a prerequisite to receive grace on Christ's return - "normally"/"regularly" it is spent by an apostle, but there might be exeptions.
Greetings from Europe,
Peter Johanning

Is this true: the European District Apostles are supportive of the ordination of women in the New Apostolic Church, but District Apostles that represent the "Americas", Asia, and Australia regard that idea as unthinkable, and therefore reject that suggestion? Is this rejection based on personal bias, or have there been polls taken in each of your districts that have determined that the majority of members outside of Europe would never accept women having ministerial roles in our church?
