The times they are a'changin'Child care
Free child care will be offered in the conference center adjacent to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Sunday School activities will be provided. The Chief Apostle will stop by the child care center prior to service. There will be an audiovisual satellite feed into the center, and communion service will be provided to the children. Parents will receive a pager and will be paged in the event there is a problem with their child. Parents with children who need to leave the auditorium during service may go to the Gold Room on the second floor of the auditorium, or they may go to the child care center. Ushers will be available to escort parents to both locations.

"Shaquille" schreibt: Singing vs everyting else a chuch should do....
Even in the absence of a "special visit", there is an tremendous emphasis in the church on choir programs. In fact, it is really the only sustained program for adults in the church. Perhaps that is because it is the easiest to maintain with an all volunteer organization.
Worship and praise through singing has a critical place in church. But the amount of time spent on these programs is excessive. They drain critical resources--volunteer time--that might be used to support a wider range of programs. Run the number of volunteer hours spent in travel to, from, and participation in various choirs. It is an eye opener, and reflects where the church's focus remains. But to me, the worst part of this focus is that it sends the message to members that God's work is best done with a hymnal in your hands--rather than a hammer to build a house for someone who lives in a cardboard box, or a sewing needle to make a blanket for a child in the hospital, or simply a ladle in a soup kitchen. Brothers are encouraged to seek training in music to direct choirs, but no push take courses in theology and public speaking. Sustained adult spiritual education programs are few and far between, and must always take a back seat to district choir or the next mega event.
This emphasis on choirs ratchets up when national leaders come to town, in the form of special programs and the need to perfect the musical selections for the big event. The message: there is great spirituality in this visit, and the way a good member prepares and participates is by being in a choir or serving at a dinner. The end result is man-worship. Even though the church denies it and its local leaders scoff at the notion, to direct so much energy into the visit of a dignitary brings with it the implication of spiritual significance in the visit of this man. To say it is directed to "the office" is no improvement. "The office" is not Jesus nor is it His teachings, nor is it a suitable likeness thereof.
If the church wants to be about Christ then 1) provide true spiritual training and instruction to the members via professional programs available off the shelf in any Christianbook store; 2) be engaged in the community in humanitarian efforts; 3) be engaged in an active program of missionary work; 4) stop putting so much volunteer time into practicing for and singing to dignitaries.

It was just announced that the Service for Departed slated for March 2nd will also include a celebration for DA Latorcai's birthday as well as what would have been Michael Kraus 100th birthday.
In the spirit of his memory here is an informative offering, Minister Michael Kraus

Der Vorschlag von Klitzke ist wirklich witzig - und paßt zum ganzen Kult, der um das Entschlafenenwesen getrieben wird:

LOL, maybe we should start countering that we had a vision and " Bischoff/Fendt/Kraus came to me and said it's all wrong and told me " to get out while you can! ".
